Wash-Care Guide for Venkatagiri Sarees

Wash

For everyday cotton Venkatagiri sarees, gently hand-wash in cold water using a mild, pH-neutral detergent. Avoid scrubbing, wringing, or soaking for long, as the fine yarns and zari borders are delicate. 

Dry Clean Only 

For pure silk Venkatagiri sarees or those with heavy zari, always opt for professional dry cleaning to preserve their natural sheen, strength, and intricate weaving. Home washing of silk should be avoided as it can weaken both the fabric and zari.

Dry

Air-dry in shade on a flat surface or hanger, away from direct sunlight to prevent colour fading and zari dullness. Never twist or wring the saree — let excess water drip naturally. For silk sarees, if slightly damp, lay flat in shade to dry without stress on the fabric or zari.

Iron

Use low to medium heat, always on the reverse side. Place a thin cotton cloth between the iron and the saree to protect zari borders and woven motifs from heat damage. For silk, ensure the temperature is silk-friendly to maintain its luxurious finish.

Store

Fold sarees neatly with soft tissue or muslin cloth placed between folds, especially along zari borders, to prevent sticking, tearing, or creasing. Store in breathable cotton bags, never plastic, to allow air circulation and avoid moisture buildup. Refold every 3–4 months and air occasionally in shade to keep the saree fresh, prevent mildew, and protect zari’s shine.
